The model sports a complete redesign, more in-line with its Clio sibling. At the front, Renault’s diamond-shaped badge dominates the new black grille and underscores the brand’s new design identity. The rear borrows styling cues from the Clio.

It measures 4m long, 1.9m wide and 1.5m tall with a wheelbase of 2.5m. It’s ground clearance is rated at 164mm.

The model is offered in two specifications, Expression and Dynamique, with one engine and transmission choice.

The new Sandero is, according to the automaker, the only model in its class to offer a turbo petrol engine as it borrows the 66kW/135Nm three-cylinder 0.9-litre turbo used in the Clio.

Mated to a five speed manual, fuel consumption is rated at 5.2 litres/100km with 119g/km CO2 emission. Fuel consumption can be further reduced by activating the Eco mode.

According to Renault: “The new Sandero is the safest car in its class as it offers, standard across the range, safety features usually reserved for ‘higher class’ models.”

Units are fitted with anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, emergency brake assist, dual front airbags, electronic stability program with anti-skid regulation (ASR) and hill assist.

The Expression is equipped with power front windows, remote central locking, chromed door handles and a leather steering wheel and gear lever. The cabin benefits from Isofix child restraints,  radio/MP-3 compatible CD player with USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Dynamique boasts 15” alloys, fog lights with chromed surrounds, body-coloured door handles, power windows and power-adjustable side mirrors. Inside it benefits from side airbags and cruise control with speed limiter. Boot capacity is rated at 292 litres.

Renault aims to be the in “top 5” for parts affordability: “The new Sandero’s running costs will be very moderate, in line with the previous generation (ranking at No.3 of its segment, according to Malcom Kinsey’s 2013 report.”
