The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality will launch the Masakhane Campaign which will be focusing on payment of rates and other municipal services on 07 February 2020 at the RNM Council Chambers.

RNM like all other Municipalities is owed huge amounts of monies on rates and services and debtors are various stakeholders such as residential, government, Ingonyama Trust Board, Farms and Commercial. This debt has got a negative effect in the delivery of quality services to the citizens of the Municipality.

The campaign which was kick-started by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) in November last year seeks to mobilise all stakeholders to pay for the rates and other Municipal services.

The Political Leadership will lead the campaign and will be acting as champions. Leaders of both Business as well as Ratepayers will be key stakeholders towards the implementation and success of the campaign as it is strongly believed that all stakeholders of the Municipality have interest in the sustainability of the municipal business hence they are called to join hands in defence of the municipality’s existence.

The campaign which will be launched on 07 February 2020 will have five (05) pillars being:

  • Sending of correct bills on time on monthly basis
  • Collaboration with Business and Ratepayer’s Associations
  • Provision of quality services
  • Education about both benefits of paying and dangers of not paying
  • Leadership interaction with all stakeholders involved to obtain feedback on the provision of services

This campaign will give equal status between payment of rates and other Municipal services as well as provision of quality services.
