The Southern KwaZulu-Natal XI suffered back-to-back defeats in the opening weekend of the Twenty20 Premier League.

Southern KwaZulu-Natal XI kicked off their campaign against DHS Rhythm at Port Shepstone Country Club on Saturday, winning the toss and electing to bat.

Ashley Lombard and Anton Potgieter got off to a good start, scoring 16 and 22 runs respectively, however, the wheels came off after their departures and Southern KwaZulu-Natal XI were bundled out for a mere 67 runs.

DHS made quick work of the run chase and passed the total in the 10th over to win by eight wickets.

On Sunday, Southern KwaZulu-Natal XI travelled to Durban to face Delta at the Tills Crescent grounds.

Delta won the toss and elected to bat first, with the Southern KwaZulu-Natal bowlers taking five wickets and containing Delta to 109 runs.

Yugeshan Pillay was the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets for 13 runs in four overs.

Southern KwaZulu-Natal had not only a decent bowling attack to contend with, but also the fact of heavy rain looming.

They batted through the rain and upped the run rate, with Yusuf Moosa top-scoring with 22 runs not out.

However, with 30 runs needed from the last three overs, the rain pelted down and the umpires had to call off the match.

Delta took the win due to a superior run rate.

Southern KwaZulu-Natal play Uthangulu in Empangeni this Saturday before they welcome Chatsworth Sporting to Port Shepstone Country Club on Sunday.
