About R709 510 in cash was recovered at the homes of three of the suspects.

The Hawks from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation team working together with Crime Intelligence arrested four suspects, aged between 31 and 60 for a cash-in-transit heist which happened on the N2 main road, near Harding last Friday.

It is alleged that two armoured vehicles were on route from Port Shepstone to Kokstad after collecting cash from the depot.

The case was reported at Harding police station and the case docket was allocated to the Hawks for investigation.

“Members interviewed all security guards who were robbed and during the interview it was established that three of the guards were allegedly involved,” added Captain Mhlongo.

It is suspected that they colluded with the suspects.

Their houses were searched and three of them were found with cash allegedly taken during the heist.

A total amount of R709 510 was recovered.

They are expected to appear in the Harding Magistrate’s Court today (May 5).
