Blue Ocean Aquatics swimmers shine at provincial level

Blue Ocean Aquatics had seven swimmers participate at the Speedo KZN Premier Provincial Championships and Commonwealth Trials and SALGA Games recently. This is the most competitive provincial championships of the year for KZN.

The participating swimmers where Milla Drakopoulos, Carla Kretzschmar, Michelle Kretzschmar, Marnu Koekemoer, Amber Vorster, Keytin Vorster and Janine Oosthuizen.

The swimmers competed in 41 events & Milla Drakopoulos, Marnu Koekemoer, Amber Vorster & Michelle Kretzschmar qualified to swim in the finals in the evening where they swam faster than in the heats in the morning.

Milla Drakopoulos won 2 gold medals in 100m & 200m freestyle, as well as a silver medal in the 50m freestyle. Marnu Koekemoer won 3 silver medals in 100m & 200m free & 200m backstroke as well as bronze medal in the 50m backstroke.

Michelle Kretzschmar qualified for B finals in all the backstroke events, 50m, 100m & 200m. Amber Vorster qualified & swam finals in all the breaststroke events.

Amber Vorster had an improvement of 37.27 seconds over her 8 swims; Milla Drakopoulos improved her times by 23.53 seconds with Marnu swimming 41.12seconds faster on his swims. The senior swimmers also improved on their times with Keytin Vorster improving by 2.65seconds, Janine Oosthuizen by .76seconds,Carla Kretzschmar by 8.51 & Michelle Kretzschmar by .13seconds.It was a great week of racing & the swimmers have excelled in their performance.

Blue Ocean Aquatics had swimmers represent the club & the district at SALGA Games in Richards Bay & they came home with a bag full of medals. Wine Koekemoer won 1 silver & 3 bronze medal, Tharien Venter won 2 silver medals & 1 bronze medal & Tayne Rudling won bronze medals for the 100m butterfly. Congratulations to these swimmers we did the club proud & held the Ugu district colours high.
