The KZNSB’s Operational management team has been monitoring the cut-off low pressure system that is due to affect the weather and sea conditions off KZN later today, Wednesday 15th November 2017. The SA Weather Services have issued numerous severe weather warnings and the swell forecasting models that the Board monitors are all predicting unsettled seas and a strong groundswell of up to 3m.

These unsettled seas and large swells could result in the movement or damage to shark safety gear should it remain in the water. With the very busy December season approaching and in order to minimise any damage or losses of gear the Sharks Board, in consultation with the affected Municipalities, has this morning removed shark safety gear at the majority of protected bathing beaches. Shark safety gear will be replaced as soon as the seas have settled and we are confident that the gear will remain stable.
