Waves of sadness passed through the Port Shepstone High School corridors recently.

Yamkelo Mdewuka, a grade 12 learner, passed away on Monday evening the 3rd of September after a hit-and-run accident the previous weekend.

Yamkelo came through Port Shepstone Junior and Senior Primary Schools and was a learner at Sheppie High from the beginning of grade 8.

The 17-year-old was a keen sportsman and wore the number 12 jersey for the Ugu basketball team and the school’s first team. He was awarded his school senior half colours for the sport. He also enjoyed playing soccer.

Another of his talents was his love for rap music, and he wrote and performed his own compositions.

Yamkelo will be remembered by his peers and teachers for his generous smile. Condolences are extended to all who knew him and especially to his family.
