Sod-turning ceremony marks start of Margate Airport upgrading

Her Worship the Mayor Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu officially introduced a contractor which will be undertaking the upgrades at the Margate Airport during the sod-turning ceremony on Friday.

The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality received a grand funding of R10 million from the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs.

The funding will be utilised for upgrades related to extending of arrivals venue and the refurbishment of ablution facilities.

In addition, the funds will also be used to develop a new building for car hire services in order to have a conducive space for customers.

Critical in this project funding as well will be the construction of the controlled paid parking characterised with boom gates system which will also assist in regenerating revenue for the airport.

The project will be completes in six months.
