A group of karateka from Suid-Natal Martial Arts Academy attended the recent Arnold Classic Africa held at the Sandton Convention Centre.

The Arnold Classic is one of the most popular sporting events in the world and the only one of its kind on the African continent, where all sporting codes compete at the same time, at the same venue.

Sports Karate is one of these sporting codes where Karate South Africa (KSA) held a ranking tournament, inviting only the top 10 athletes in the country in their respective age groups.

With “The Terminator” Arnold Schwarzenegger himself in attendance, Marnie Koekemoer, along with Marcel and Divan du Toit (pictured above), took home bronze in the junior unison kata category.

Tyler Hogan (pictured below, left) won a bronze medal in the 16/17 kata category and Wian de Beer bagged a gold medal in the 10/11 over 45 kg kumite event.

“We are extremely proud of the fact that all the participating karateka from Suid Natal Martial Arts Academy medaled at this prestigious event,“ said Sensei Coenie Vrey.
