Two students from Suid-Natal Martial Arts Academy have been selected to represent South Africa at the ninth Commonwealth Karate Championships to be held at The Olive Convention Centre Ice Arena in Durban from 28 November to 2 December.
Tyler Hogan will be competing in the Championship division, which is for karateka 14 years and older. He will be competing in the Cadet (14/15 years) Kata category for Elite karateka as a Protea.
This is the second Commonwealth tournament for Hogan, who previously competed in the Commonwealth Karate Championship held in India in 2015.
Wian de Beer will be competing in the Commonwealth Cup, which is for all athletes from seven to 13 years.
He will compete in the Kumite 10/11 years under 45kg category. Junior athletes from seven to 13 years will compete with Karate South Africa colours.
