Seven local schools took part in the preliminary round of the Rotary and Daily News Team Speaking Competition hosted by the Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast (Margate and Uvongo) at Suid-Natal Hoërskool recently.

Topics ranged from: Agism, I am different…, Depression and Gender-Based Violence to At what point does being WOKE become a hindrace?

Teams of three take part with a total time of 12 minutes. The adjudicators had a difficult task, and learners appreciated the feedback before prize-giving.

Congratulations to the winners Southcity Christian School with Suid-Natal Hoërskool as runner-up. Ethan Hammond from Port Shepstone Secondary, a politician in the making, was a deserving Outstanding Speaker.

Accolades to Catherine Elizabeth de Boer for ‘Service above Self’ for all the organising of the venue, liaising with the schools, organising LSEN Hospitality for the catering and professional presentation of the event.

Thanks to all Rotarians and Rotary Anns for your assistance. Such a lovely project and I feel blessed to have been able to listen to our amazing and talented youth.
