The annual Douglas Green Bellingham Golf Day held at Southbroom recently was once again a tremendous success.

The betterball stableford competition is always a popular day and is one of the club’s longest standing sponsor days.

Cracking the day with first place honours were John Pinnoy and Bones Coertzen on 44 points.

Dave Fox and Greg Fox were the runners-up on 43 while Cyprian Xolo and Simon Shusha placed third on 42 after counting out Bob Carmichael and Brian Hoggart and Bruce Matthew and Paul Lawson.

Della Kempthorne and Sharon Turnbull Jackson won the ladies competition on 42 points.

In second were Lan Yeadon and Jeanette Peyios (39), third were Irene Schanda and Candida Amm (37) and fourth were Lynne Blackstock and Lee Varrie (36).

Resident Pro Derek James said it was a “non-stop” festive season at the club.

“Southboom was ‘choc-a-bloc’ full as was the beach with many happy families enjoying all the village facilities. Christmas lunch at the club was full and the New Year’s party was good fun.

“The morning – 6.30 to 8.30 – times for golf were extremely popular as always and the afternoons were steady. It’s always great to see the returning home owners and regulars, especially the families with all the different generations.

“A few commented they had been to Plett for the last few years and couldn’t wait to get back to Southbroom with its lovely laid-back, relaxed vibe! There were also many first-time visitors to the club and course, which is always lovely to see and listen to their feedback and their reactions,” said James.
