Southbroom golfers swing away in Cancer Challenge

Golfers teed-it-up for a great cause in Saturday’s Sanlam Cancer Challenge at Southbroom.

Players came out in numbers for the annual fundraiser and played with extra purpose.

Who else but Gavin Sole won the men’s individual stableford on 38 points. Malcolm Greenland was second on 37 and Johan Wentzel third on 36.

The B Division was clinched by Colin McKay on 34, where Nic van Deventer (33) finished second and Russell Mackenzie (32) third, while Gerald FitzGerald won the C Division on 40 ahead of Malcolm Moorley (39) and Chris Ledden (34).

The ladies competition saw Janet Humphrey take top honours on 28 points. Candida Amm (32) won the B Division, where Sandy FitzGerald (31) and Lorraine Cook (30) placed second and third respectively, while Val Volck (35) was victorious in the C Division, where she held off closest rivals Jill Webster (33) and Lee Mutch (25).
