Gavin Sole placed third in the KwaZulu-Natal Invitational strokeplay competition at Durban Country Club on Sunday.
The Southbroom player, who clinched the MacKenzie Cup at the KwaZulu-Natal Amateur Championships at Selborne Park Golf Club in May (article below), carded a first-round 75 and second-round 71 to finish one shot off the lead.
Mount Edgecombe’s Aneurin Gounden took the win on 145 (73 and 72) with Vryheid’s Corné van Deventer counting out Sole for second place.
The result left Sole fourth in the KwaZulu-Natal Tournament Points Rankings where Cotswold Downs’ Gregory Royston leads the way.
Port Shepstone’s Kwanele Mkhoma was the next best South Coast golfer in joint 32nd place on 158 (77 and 80) followed by Margate’s Jan McDermott in joint 35th place on 160 (84 and 76).
