Southport police crackdown on crime

Southport police held a special operation in the Southport area on Friday night. Members of the Ugu Cluster Office, K9 Unit, TRT Unit, Southport Police, VIS and RTi were all a part of the Cordon and Search and Roadblock.

102 persons, 16 premises and 48 vehicles were searched.

“The police members arrested eight people for possession of dagga, one person for possession of a dangerous weapon, four people for being drunk in public, one person for a road traffic offence and one illegal immigrant,” Lt Col Zandra Wiid said

Brigadier Bongani Sibiya, who is the Deputy Cluster commander of Ugu cluster, was overall in charge of the operation. He expressed his satisfaction with the operation especially in view of the fact that the Southport area showed a very low crime figure over the week end.
