Margate Country Club has confirmed it’s all systems go for this weekend’s Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach Margate Challenge.
The floods earlier this week won’t derail the event. The course has drained well and the stage is set for a jam-packed competition on Friday and Saturday.
Previously played over three days, this year’s organising committee have decided to reduce the competition to two days with a view to attracting people who need to take leave and to reduce the entrance fee.
Margate Country Club’s marquee event has become one of the most popular annual South Coast sporting events over the years. Many from across the country flock to the South Coast for the competition each year and the 2019 edition will be no exception.
Due to an overload of local bowling events, the bowls segment of the event will take place on 24-25 May while the ever-popular bridge drive will once again enhance the Margate Challenge.
This year’s theme is Country Roads – giving the event a rustic, Platteland jacket that is set to add a touch of humour to proceedings and is sure to appeal to players and supporters alike.
While the length of the event has been tweaked, what hasn’t changed is the support of Halfway Toyota Shelly Beach, with the dealership staying on as title sponsor for the seventh successive year.
Golfers will once again have a chance to drive away with a brand new car as a Toyota Aygo will be up for grabs for a hole-in-one on the 16th hole on the final day of the betterball stableford competition. Fantastic daily and overall prizes will also be on the line.
