Sean Baker and Grace Fourie were in a class of their own during Margate Country Club’s strokeplay championships recently.
Baker was pushed by the legendary Ivan Curlewis and Ronnie Mtshaka but pulled away with a string of birdies on the final stretch to secure his second Margate club title.
He carded rounds of 70 and 73 to win by five shot on 143 gross. Curlewis (70, 78), who boasts an astonishing record of 35 club titles, shared second place with Mtshaka (76, 72).
John Webster (83, 82) won the B Division silverware on 165 gross, with runner-up Gary Smith (83, 85) three shots behind.
Rounding off the men’s winners was Greg Litkie, who clinched the C Division title on 70 points (32, 38), two ahead of AB Sidumo (36, 32).
Meanwhile, Fourie fired on all cylinders in the ladies championships.
Her dominant display saw her clinch the ladies crown by seven shots on 183 gross.
Sandi Johnston sealed the Silver Division spoils on 190, while Agnes Spielman bagged the Bronze Division honours on 193 after holding off Wilma Olkers, who finished two strokes adrift.
