San Lameer Country Club hosted a successful Golfing for Teddy fund-raising day on Wednesday.
Approximately R6000 was raised in an auction and players donated roughly 70 teddy bears for children who will spend Christmas in hospital.
The proud winner of the day was nine-year-old Reinhardt Uys, who managed to eagle the 10th hole.
“Thank you to everyone who participated in this great event. These teddies will be a companion and friend to many children in hospital too ill to make it home for Christmas,” said Meyer du Toit, Golf Director at San Lameer Country Club.
“It was great to see a youngster walk away with first prize. A special thanks must also go to Claudia Sherrin from Panorama Media Corp for their involvement in this special day.
“She was the first person to contact us and showed their eagerness to participate and to contribute to the success of this day. They sponsored kiddies magazines to be handed out with these teddies on the day of delivery.
“A huge thank you must go to Heinrich du Preez who started this great initiative; his selflessness is such an inspiration to sponsors and beneficiaries. Heinrich is giving his Christmas to be dressed as Santa to brighten up the days of those who need it most.”
Du Preez holds over 25 world record, the latest documented in the 2014 Guinness World Records for playing a round of 18 holes on each continent (excluding Antarctica) in 119 hours and 48 minutes.
