Rain and wind hampered golf competitions again this week at Margate Country Club, but the ladies and Club 100 managed to complete their rounds on Tuesday.

The Club 100 was played in an IPS format and won by Mike Jones with 37 points. Second place was shared by Kim Howden, Robin Shuttleworth and Dries Barkhuizen on 36 points.

In the ladies competition and to Sandi Johnston’s surprise, she and team members Dawn Howden and Beryl Williamson won the Sandi’s Surprise Alliance format with 165 points. Una McLachlan, Evelyn Burls and Anita Scheepers came second on 146 points, while third place went to Lesley Erasmus, Lexley Lewis and Hannetjie Pretorius with 145 points. Sandi Johnston also won the IPS format on 34 points.

The Saturday club competition was the annual Boertjies versus Souties showdown. The Boertjies were victorious, narrowly beating the Souties by four points – 535 to 531.

The betterball competition was won by Carlos Pereira and Doug Johnston on 40 points. Chris Redelinghuys and Robin Shuttleworth (as ghost) came second on a count out with 39 points. Third place went to Eddie Davies and Mike Jones, also on a count out on 39 points.

The ladies featured well with the nearest to the pins, which went to Jane Davies on the 4th hole, Shannon Gottlieb on the 11th hole and Barbara Jackson on the 16th. The best dressed couple prize was awarded to Kim and Dawn Howden.

Please note that there will not be any Friday Night dinners during the festive season, but a la carte menu is available from the restaurant.
