Exceptional win for Massam and Willemse at Margate Country Club

It was “business as usual” and a busy week again at Margate Country Club after the successful spring treatment of the greens.

The scores were good and the ladies kicked off proceedings, playing an alliance with two to count, which was won by Grace Fourie, Anita Scheepers and Lesley Erasmus with 81 points.

The Club 100 played an individual stableford format and Harold Olkers was victorious with a very impressive 42 points. Johann Erasmus came second on 37 points.

Wednesday saw The Wobblers play an alliance with two to count and Peter Hunter, Frank Merrill and Hans Dallinger came first on 85 points, followed in second place by Wimpie Jordaan, Rob Brien and Keith Pearson with 82 points. Third place went to Ernie Janse, Dave Morrison and Rob Weanie on 79 points. Konnie Konrad, Hanz Beilhartz and Dolf Willemse secured the Arthur Tomlinson Floater with 62 points.

The Margate Pro Shop day, played in an individual stableford format, was won by Carlos Pereira with 39 points and Angus McLachlan came second on 38 points. Nearest to the pin on the fourth went to Carlos Pereira, while Graeme Massam took nearest to the pin on the 11th.

Business Day was held on Friday and the format was a fourball alliance with two to count. Robin Shuttleworth, Anthony Beech, Una and Angus McLachlan secured first place with 91 points. Coming second on 90 points were Ivan Curlewis, Tony Fairbairn, Terry Yannikakis and Carlos Pereira (as their ghost).

Wimpie Jordaan, Ernie Janse, Hans Beilhartz and Dave Morrison came third on a count out with 89 points. Nearest to the pins on the fourth and the 11th went to Rob Weyer and Ernie Janse respectively.

The Saturday Club competition, a better ball stableford format, was won with an amazing 50 points by Dolf Willemse and Graeme Massam. Doug Johnston and Derek Egerton ended second on a count out with 43 points. Coming third, also on a count out with 43 points were Robin Shuttleworth and Anthony Beech. Nearest to the pin for two on the seventh went to Ivan Curlewis, while Peter Hunter was the nearest to the pin on the 16th.

The ladies played their monthly medal – kindly sponsored by Margate Pro Shop – and winning on a 72 nett was Lexley Lewis. Second place went to Anita Scheepers on 74 nett, while Hannetjie Pretorious came third with a 75 nett.
