Morrison claims three podium finishes at Margate Country Club

The beginning of what was a busy week at Margate Country Club offered glorious golfing conditions.

Taking full advantage of this were Margaret Taylor and Lizzie Meyer who won the ladies combined stableford competition, with 70 points. Connie McArthur and Rene Paton ended in second place on 62 points.

Tuesday also saw the Club 100 play their individual stableford competition which was won by Frik van Zyl on 36 points. Second place, with 35 points, went to an ever-lurking Ivan Curlewis.

The following day, the Wobblers played an alliance with two to count and winners Frank Merrill, John Gibson and Wimpie Jordaan had an impressive 89 points.

Second place went to Konnie Konrad, Piet Pretorius and Rob McGill on 82 points. Otto Mutschler, Dave Morrison and Johan Hulshof secured third place with 80 points, while the Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Alan Davies, Thys Bothma and Hans Beilhartz on 68 points.

Then the weather turned and the Thursday Pro Shop Day was cancelled due to lovely and much-needed rain. This was unfortunately followed by extreme northerly winds, which set in for the remainder of the week and were evident in most of the scores.

The Friday Business Day, an alliance with two scores to count, was won by Len Wilmans, Des Pots, Guy Carlson and Steve Caldicott with 84 points.

Riaan Croucamp, Arthur Ehlert, Frik van Zyl and Mike Geiger secured second place, on a count out, with 83 points. In third place, also on 83 points, were Hans Beilhartz, Ernie Janse, Bob Weanie and Dave Morrison. Nearest the pin for two on the 7th hole was Steve Caldicott, while Brett Pollington took nearest the pin at the 11th.

On Saturday, the ladies medal was won by Sandi Johnston on 77 nett. Second place went to Grace Fourie with 78 nett, while Lesley Erasmus came third on 80 nett.

The winner of the men’s medal, A division, was Ivan Curlewis with 74 nett. Johan Stoltz came second with 75 nett. The winner of the B division was Frik van Zyl on 72 nett, while second place with 74 nett went to Rob Weyer.

The C division, played in an individual stableford format, was won by Dave Morrison on 27 points. Nearest to the pins on the second and 16th holes, went to Johann Erasmus and Ron Scowby respectively.

A mixed alliance with two scores to count was played on Sunday and kindly sponsored by the Pro Shop. Winning the day with 81 points were Angus and Una McLachlan, Shannon Gottlieb and Robin Shuttleworth. Second place went to Johan and Lesley Erasmus, Connie Mc Arthur and Ron Scowby on 78 points.

Please remember spring treatment will take place on 16, 17 and 18 September, but 9 holes will be open for play on each day.
