New names joined the hallowed list of men’s and women’s club champions at Port Shepstone Country Club at the weekend.

Kwanele Mkhoma (158) and Yzelle Greyling (162) joined the club’s coveted overall winners’ circle after two enthralling days of competition.

Greyling, carding back-to-back rounds of 81, achieved a rare feat as she became a two-club champion, having won the Margate Country Club women’s title on a number of occasions prior to joining Port Shepstone Country Club.

Greyling regards the weekend’s win as the more significant triumph.

“It’s an absolute thrill [to be a two-club champion]but Port Shepstone is by far the more special one,” Greyling told eHowz!t.

“The standard of competition is much higher, the course is absolutely beautiful and it’s a more challenging course.”

Having previously come agonisingly close to winning the title only to lose to perennial champion Colleen Eaton in a play-off, Greyling said she felt a mix of joy and relief when she finally clinched the silverware on Sunday.

“I’m very, very happy. At long last I have managed to get the win, so I’m overjoyed and very relieved. Even my dad and my son are relieved,” she said.

Greyling said she was made to work hard for the win every step of the way by the strong field.

“I’m over the moon with my performance. Both days I had an 81 but with Day Two being the make-or-break, I’m more pleased with how I played on Sunday.

“Jane Lind the bull terrier just never gave up. She was absolutely brilliant and kept me on my toes.”

Greyling, who also won the silver division (another rare double), added she entered this year’s club championships with a now or never mentality.

“If I wasn’t going to win it this year I was never going to win it, not with Colleen Eaton and the youngsters around. The youngsters coming up at the club are really phenomenal.”

The husband and wife pair of Brian and Jane Lind finished second in the men’s and women’s championships respectively.

Brian Lind (163) also won the A division, while Santos Baskali (164) won the B division and Sweady Chetty (186) won the C division.

Justin Pllay was the best junior, Kevin Loring was the senior division winner and Lourens Gouws was the veterans division winner.
