Southbroom Golf Club was a buzz when it hosted the annual Mixed Classic recently.
A field of 128 players enjoyed two days of fun golf and two great evenings.
The weather eventually played its part; after lots of rain on the Friday evening, Saturday arrived and the rain disappeared as overcast conditions met the players.
Greensomes always provides a stern test for players and it showed in the scoring. After Day One, Theo and Esther Enslin with 37 points had a narrow one-point lead over eventual winners, Bobby and Gesi Graham.
Sunday as the wind blew and skies cleared, the scoring got better. Last year’s runners-up, Brian and Lynne Blackstock, shot the best score of 44 points, narrowly counting out Gary and Lesley Godley.
The Grahams from Zimbali won the trophy on 77 points, edging runners-up Rory O’Donnell and Colleen Anderson by one.
Both evening’s entertainment were fantastic. Mama and Papa James sang on Friday, and the Southbroom Legends band of Mel Davies, Richard Bridgeford, Des Erasmus and Dion de Beer entertained all on Saturday with great catchy music.
The 1920’s Gatsby theme was fabulous and embraced by all. The food was voted absolutely delicious, there was plenty of laughter, fun and great outfits.
