The Trafalgar Ratepayers and Residents Association (TRRA), together with the Trafalgar Conservation Group under the leadership of Tracy Taylor, could not have wished for a more perfect day for their first annual golf day at San Lameer Country Club on Friday.

There was no bad fortune on Friday the 13th as a full field of 72 golfers were welcomed by perfectly blue skies. The format of the competition was fourball alliance and had a shotgun start at 11:00.

Players started coming into the clubhouse from around 15:00, all with smiles and their faces after a lovely round. They kept talking about the beautiful greens and playful buck on the course.

The prize-giving was a cheerful event hosted by the chairman of the TRRA, Marius Santos. It started off with an auction of well-known local photographer Pieter de Ras’ artwork that fetched a handsome amount of money, followed by fabulous prizes for the first five four-balls.

Winning the day were Heiner and Ursula Sporri along with Andy Bossard and Eli Bachman on 93.

Great excitement was felt during the draw for the three raffles that followed. Everyone was hoping to be the lucky winner of one of the raffle prizes, in particular, the one for a bottle of 21-year-old Royal Salute.

Mr Costello, an overseas visitor from Ireland, was the lucky winner of the whiskey and another prize – a two-night stay at the Kingfisher Eco Retreat. He definitely proved the saying, the luck of the Irish.

Other fabulous prizes included stays at Wild Coast Sun, massages at Ocean Bay Spa, Yoga and Breakfast at Nakai.

Many holes were sponsored by local businesses in support of this great cause. The sponsors were Supertech Shelley Beach, Casa Toscana, Days at Sea, South Coast Refrigeration Airconditioning, Rib Rage, Rock Haven and GP Security. The organisers thank the sponsors and are most grateful for their involvement.

Pizza and drinks were enjoyed afterwards as the sun was setting and the sea breeze cooled the air. Another glorious day in Paradise.

Over R20 000 was raised for conservation and special projects in Trafalgar. The organisers look forward to see everyone at the next tournament in a year’s time.
