Sizzling summer highlights at Southbroom Golf Club

It has been a non-stop summer of action at Southbroom Golf Club.

The rain stopped, the sun came out, a bit of a crazy wind some days, but all-in-all a good season.

The highlights of the season included:

George Haswell and Jean Corfe clinching the Spooner Rose Bowl Mixed Greensomes Medal on 63.6 nett.

Meryl Chambers and Nick Riemer were the runners-up on 64 nett and Allyson Thomas and Bob Thomas were third on 68.6 nett

Jean Henri Els became the 2017 junior club champion, and there were a couple of holes-in-one.

The Pro Day winners were Tony Westoby and Terry D’Ore, and Susan Omand and Gill Huddy.

Westoby and D’Ore won the men’s competition on 50 points, ahead of Gary Purtell and Pieter Els (49), Dave Donald and Anton Leal (48), Warren Peterson and Ian Omand (47) and Gary Brackley and Sam Danforth (47).

Omand and Huddy’s winning score was 46 points. They saw off nearest rivals Janet Humphrey and Solange Fox (45), Jeanette Peyios and Sandy Luus (42), Jean Corfe and Julie Walker (41) and Louise Leal and Jean Cole (41).

The Douglas Green Bellingham Golf Day saw Gordon Moody and Dave Page come away with the men’s spoils and Lynne Blackstock and Janet Humphrey with the ladies honours.
