Gavin Sole rewrote the record books in the recent Southbroom Strokeplay Club Championships.
“The Big Fish” took the spoils with back-to-back rounds of 68 and 68 for 136, 21 ahead of George Bothma and David Rush, who shared second with rounds of 76 and 81.
Sole’s triumph was a record eighth on the trot and 10th overall, surpassing Ivan Curlewis’ previous all-time record nine titles.
The club championships was postponed from April to August due to the floods that lashed the coast, but players still had a torrid time, with drizzly cold rain all day on the Saturday and strong winds on the Sunday.
Nevertheless, it was still a great weekend and there was some really good golf played.
Andre Attfield (92 and 81) won the B Division, with a great second day ahead of Chris Miller, Jim Cook won the C Division with 74 points, way ahead of Gordon Moody on 66, while Malcolm Greenland won the over 60s medal, followed by Clive and Chris Miller.
Janet Humphrey won the ladies crown ahead of Rene Matthew with a pair of 91s. Jean Cole won the Bronze Medal on 203, followed by Irene Schanda and Solange Fox, while Irene Schanda won the Bronze Stableford on 54, with Lorraine Cook in second place.
