Lizzie Currie continued her winning streak when she won both the open and closed titles in the Southern Coastal Regional Championships held at Southbroom Golf Club on Sunday.
Having won the Plate at the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship at Umhlali Country Club earlier in the week, the Port Shepstone-based golfer added more silverware to her collection with rounds of 76 and 73 in chilly and rainy conditions.
Kim Strauss from Port Shepstone Country Club, who reached the Plate semi-finals at the national amateur championship, was the runner-up after shooting 73 and 79.
“This is a really special win for me, especially with it being played here on my home course and coming off the win a couple of days ago,” Currie told eHowzit.
“It’s lovely to have this competition on home turf and the support of the Southbroom Golf Club ladies. The weather is rather miserable but we all buckled down and just played.”
Currie was included in the KwaZulu-Natal team announced during the prize-giving function for the upcoming Inter-Provincial at Devondale Golf Course in Stellenbosch.
Bronwyn Rae will captain the team, which includes Currie, Strauss, Brittany-Fey Berger, Liezel Smit and Marlie Smit.
KwaZulu-Natal Ladies Golf Association vice-president Jane Lind was named manager of the team, who’ll leave for the tournament on 29 September and return on 6 October.
