Top 10 finishes for Margate Country Club at McKenzie Cup

Margate Country Club sent two teams to Kokstad this past weekend to partake in the grand old McKenzie Cup.

The competition is played in better ball alliance format and our boys did us proud. The A Team consisting of Sean Baker, Robin Shuttleworth, Johan Stoltz and Len Wilmans finished ninth overall, while the B Team consisting of Robert Mavundla, Sbu Ntozakhe, Wonderboy Nxumalo and Douglas Sima ended 10th.

Back home and earlier in the week, the ladies Pro Shop Day was played in an individual point scoring format, with Chiappini Boshoff securing first place on 37 points. Second place went to Hannetjie Pretorius with 36 points and Beryl Williamson took third with 35 points.

Ivan Curlewis had another strong finish in the Club 100, winning on 37 individual points. Adriaan Lemmer came second with 35 points.

Wednesday saw the Wobblers play an alliance with two to count and victorious were Louis Gouws, John Gibson and Ernie Janse with 78 points. The trio of Otto Mutschler, Dave Morrison and Peter Hunter came second on 75 points. Third place with 72 points, went to Thys Bothma, Freddie Boshoff and Eddie Gommersall. The Arthur Tomlinson floater went to Konnie Konrad, Andries Smit and Hans Beilhartz with 60 points.

The Thursday Pro Shop Day was played in an individual point scoring format and won by Alan Davies on 38 points, while Ronnie Mtshaka came second, with 37 points and on a count out. Third place, also on 37 points, went to Robin Shuttleworth. Nearest to the pins on the second and 16th went to Ronnie Mtshaka and Riaan Croucamp respectively.

Peter Hunter and Ernie Janse won the Saturday Club Competition played in a better ball stableford format, with 43 points. Second place, on a count out with 42 points, went to Arthur Ehlert and Des Potts. Sydney Shingange and Pierre Malherbe took third, with 42 points and also on a count out. Nearest to the pins on the second and 16th went to Graeme Massam and Thys Bothma respectively.

The ladies also played a better ball stableford format, Connie’s Day and was won by Shannon Gottlieb and Sandi Johnston on 45 points. Second place went to Maureen Pitcher and Rene Paton with 41 points, while Chiappini Boshoff and Lizzie Meyer secured third place on 40 points.
