Some of the leading local players have confirmed their entry in the Selborne Park Ladies Day Golf Day on Thursday.

The course, once described as the “Augusta National of South Africa”, has in recent years played host to Sunshine Tour events such as the Vodacom Origins of Golf and the South African Women’s Open.

The South African Women’s Open, held at Selborne Park Golf Club, marked the tournament’s welcome return to the Ladies European Tour in 2012.

The young German golfer, Caroline Masson (25) won the event, beating South Africa’s top lady golfer, Lee-Ann Pace and England’s Danielle Montgomery.

Nobuhle Dlamini, Ashleigh Simon and Stacy Lee Bregman are some of the other top South African lady golfers who have graced the course, as well as Lindsay Wright from Australia.

The course is maintained in pristine condition and provides some of the best coastal and wildlife views in the country.

The Ladies Golf Day is open to all lady golfers with an official handicap.

Among those in the field on the day will be Yzelle Greyling (Port Shepstone), who won the Dundee Open in recent times, secretary of Southern Coastal Region Ladies Golf Association Annette Thorold (Port Edward) and past president Jane Lund (Port Shepstone).

The golf day also offers golfers from other regions an opportunity to experience the splendour and wonder of Selborne Park Golf Club, some of whom may not have experienced playing on its scenic but challenging course before.

A 4BBB format will be used on the day and the golfers will be treated to welcome muffins, tea, coffee, halfway house and a light lunch. The prizes include sponsored weekend getaways courtesy of Eden Rock and Happy Wanderers.

Spot prizes will be drawn on the day as well.

Sponsors for the Ladies Golf Day include Halfway Toyota, Seeff Properties and King Pies. On arrival there will be “goodie bags” full of surprises for all golfers.

There will be “Fun Holes” where the golfers will have the opportunity to contribute to much needed fundraising for the Alexander Old Aged Home.

Entertainment will be provided by popular local musician, James Ellis who will serenade the ladies for a couple of hours after their round.
