Pastor Daan van Niekerk and Willa van der Walt will take on gruelling challenges in the South Coast 100 in Uvongo on Saturday from 9am.

Van Niekerk will be doing a 24-hour run, while Van der Walt will set out to complete a 12-hour run.

The duo were set to participate in the 100 Capital Classic but it’s been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, prompting the South Coast Striders to host their own event.

“We will have the run at Lilliecrona drive in Uvongo. The start point is the Uvongo pier parking lot, where they will run 1km laps, which will be 500m out and 500m back,” explained Mark Smith, the club’s running captain.

“Daan will run for 24 hours, attempting to accumulate 100km and Willa will run for 12 hours, attempting to run 60km.

“They will be praying for 100 countries as well as 100 South African cities during the run.

“This is a massive task as running up and down on a 1km loop is very taxing on the mind. I have no doubt that they will succeed.

“All South Coast Striders will join them for a few – or many – laps on the day,” said Smith.

Community members are invited to join the duo in prayer and a few laps.
