On Tuesday morning at 08:00, as WO Gerhard Prinsloo from Port Shepstone SAPS was driving on Marine Drive in the Oslo Beach area in a marked police vehicle, he witnessed a minibus taxi that was busy making a U-turn on the road in front of other traffic.

He signalled for the driver to stop, who ignored him and sped off in an inland direction. WO Prinsloo requested back up and followed the taxi who was speeding to get away.

WO Sydney Seaton from the Port Shepstone TRT responded and assisted WO Prinsloo.

They managed to stop the vehicle. When searching the suspect and vehicle, an unlicensed revolver and ammunition was also found. The 30-year-old suspect was arrested and will be charged for Reckless and negligent driving,

Failing to adhere to a police officer’s instruction, Possession of an unlicensed firearm and Possession of unlicensed ammunition.

This must send out a clear message that the SAPS will not tolerate reckless drivers who put other road users’ lives in danger.

It was established that the fire-arm was stolen during a house breaking in the Uvongo area two weeks ago.
