STATEMENT BY PORT SHEPSTONE SAPS:
During the early hours of Monday morning, WO Johan Maree from Port Shepstone police received information from a community member that three suspicious males were walking on the beach and carrying goods.
WO Maree proceeded to the area and saw three men who started running when they saw the policeman.
WO Maree called for backup and members from Port Shepstone TRT, the K9 Unit, 10111 call centre and security companies in the area arrived to search for the fleeing males.
Shortly afterwards, two flat screen television sets wrapped in a duvet were found where it was hidden in the bushes at the beach.
At the same time, a complainant from a complex of flats in the area reported that his flat had been broken into during the previous night. The door had been forced open.
He stated that two flat screens had been stolen from his flat.
Whilst police searched the area, they recovered two screw drivers and another blanket in the surrounding bushes.
Sgt Rudi Smit and Cst Sibusiso Cele from the 10111 call centre at Port Shepstone also recovered a radio, DVD player and a knife which were also hidden in nearby bushes.
A short while later, a suspect was arrested and taken in for questioning. He will be charged for house-breaking and appear in court soon.
During another follow up operation, two foreigners were also arrested in the Shelly Beach area on Monday and certain items were found in their car.
The items are suspected to be stolen.
They will also be charged for Possession of stolen property and will appear in court soon.
