Thunderstorms rain on Margate golfers’ parade

Inclement weather disrupted Margate Country Club’s men’s monthly medal sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages on Saturday.

Play was suspended for 30 minutes due to a thunderstorm and a number of players were unable to complete their rounds.

The division winners were Johan Wentzel (A division) on 80 nett, Anton Kohrmann (B division) on 70 nett and Karl Zurfluh (C division) on 79 nett.

The ladies medal was cancelled before play started.

The ladies, however, were in action on Tuesday with Una McLachlan comfortably winning the individual stableford sponsored by Margate Pro Shop on 41 points.

Beryl Williamson was second on 36 points and Wondra Bothma third on 35 points after counting out Shannon Gottlieb.

Wednesday’s wobblers fourball alliance was played at the Wild Coast where Brian Jeffreys, Tokie Janeke, Alan Davies and Konnie Konrad were a cut above the rest on 93 points.

Runners-up Piet Pretorius, Dave Boyd, Otto Mutschler and Andy Buchan were five points back on 88, Frank Stephens, Jim Finn, Dieter Jucker and Nico van Vuuren finished fourth on 87 and Doug Johnston, Fred Boshoff, Rob Brien and Dave Parsons were fifth on 86.

The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Fred Harrison, Hans Beilhartz, Carl Zurfluh and Dolf Willemse on 75 points.

The nearest to pin prizes were won by Derek Egerton (4th and 11th), Dieter Jucker (6th), Piet Pretorius (8th), Jan Richter (13th) and Konnie Konrad (17th).

Eddie Scheepers, James Tutt, Ken Oakley and Leon Olivier all sponsored the event.

Thursday’s individual stableford sponsored by Margate Pro Shop was won by Poen Olivier, who counted out Fanie Terblanche on 41 points.

Sandie Johston was third on 41 points, followed by Simon Lee, who won a count out for fourth place on 36 points.

Gary Smith won the nearest to pin prize on the 16th sponsored by Hibiscus Retirement Villages.
