Trafalgar Surf Club went up in flames on Thursday morning.

A security guard was the first to witness the fire and called local firefighters at around 6am, who quickly arrived on scene and were able to put out the fire.

The club, some 30 surfboards, wetsuits and other equipment were completely destroyed in the fire.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and will be investigated.

The club is owned and operated by well-known surfing pioneer Philani Sikobi and is revered for its inspirational Waves of Hope initiative, which uses surfing as a vehicle to inspire and uplift underprivileged youth in the area.
