A video showing two newborn twin babies taking a spa bath has been melting hearts across the web.
Sonia Rochel, a maternity nurse at Clinique de la Muette in Paris, is shown in the video massaging the babies in water to mimic life inside the womb – known as the Thalasso Baby Bath or “Thalasso Bain Bébé Jumeaux” in French. Sonia is said to have invented the technique following on the principles of Thalassotherapy.
Thalassotherapy, from the Greek thalasso meaning ‘sea’ and therapia meaning ‘treatment’, uses the healing and beneficial properties of the sea and the marine environment for your health and well-being.
Her technique sees babies bathed and massaged for 10 – 15 minutes to the sound of relaxing music, without the use of any gels or creams. Rochel wanted to show that bath time for newborns should be a relaxing experience for both baby and parent.
The bathing ritual is meant for babies from birth to 2 months, but should only ever be performed by a trained professional who knows exactly what the strength of the shower and the temperature of the water should be, and which parts of the baby to immerse.
More information about the technique is a little scant at this time, but by all accounts the babies are so blissful that they don’t even realise they are no longer in the womb.
The twins in the video, a boy and a girl, were just a few days old when they experienced the bath, according to the mother who declined to release their names.
