Two charged in Hibberdene for defeating the ends of justice

On 2014-02-21 at 22:00 the complainant, Lungisani Ndlela 28, reported to Hibberdene police that whilst driving a truck on the N2 freeway near Mtwalume, he noticed a police vehicle with blue lights who indicated that he must pull off the road.  Ndlela also alleged that whilst doing so, he noticed a black VW Polo stopping behind him.  He further then stated to police that the police vehicle drove off and that occupants of the VW  then hi jacked him and instructed him to drive towards Sawoti area where they stopped the truck.  According to Ndlela the safe  in the truck was opened  and  cash was taken.  Thereafter the so called hijackers burnt the truck and fled.  Detective Captain Alson Gumede from Hibberdene then started investigating the case and arrested the complainant.  Further investigation led the detective to Hillcrest area where the stolen money was found hidden in  a bedroom of a certain house.  Musanwenkosi Zulu 27 was also arrested.  Both accused were charged for defeating the ends of justice, theft and malicious damage to property.  They also made confessions to police.  They appeared in Hibberdene magistrates court on 2014-02-27 and the case was remanded.  Both were released on R1500 bail each.
