The Ugu District Municipality led by the Mayor, Cllr Sizwe Ngcobo held an urgent virtual meeting with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Councillors led by RNM Mayor, Cllr Nomusa Mqwebu.

The meeting, which started at 15h00 on Sunday (23 August) afternoon, was also attended by Senior Officials from both municipalities.

The main purpose of the meeting was for Ugu District Municipality leadership to explain challenges and plans to mitigate those challenges but also to give a platform to RNM Councillors to highlight and explain areas where there are challenges.

The meeting progressed very well as RNM Councillors were very vocal about the plight of the people whilst also suggesting possible solutions or mitigating actions to ensure that people in various Wards of RNM receive water as required.

Both parties also agreed to improve ways of sharing information and also communicating with the communities but also to be proactive rather than be reactive.

Though challenges may still be in existence there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel in terms of improving both the supply of water and improvement on information sharing and dissemination.

It was further agreed that whilst some technical challenges will require medium to long term solutions, water relief measures should be implemented.

There will be regular meetings of this nature and also cluster meetings that will be held especially in areas where currently there are persistent challenges.
