Ugu farmers benefit from government Covid-19 relief fund

More than R11 million has been approved by the provincial government and allocated to the distressed farmers in the district as part of the Covid-19 Agricultural Disaster Relief Fund.

This follows government’s recently announced offer of funding packages for Covid-19 Agricultural Disaster Relief Fund which was opened to all smallholder and communal farmers in the province.

The beneficiaries of this relief fund comes from various villages under the four local municipalities of Ugu district. About one hundred and sixty women are beneficiaries of this program with more than seventy youth-owned enterprises in the district have benefitted from this relief funding.

Also, the district is pleased of the approved funding for 186 spaza-shops and general dealers in the District who have also been granted financial relief from the government’s relief fund to help them out of financial distress resulting from the impact of Covid-19.

These stimulus packages have been well received by the District Economic Command Council. This support by government will provide much-needed financial relief to our small and medium enterprises towards reaching their production targets which will give them competitive advantage in their respective markets.
