Ugu karateka make KZN proud at SA Development Champs

Over a dozen Ugu karateka made their province proud at the Karate South Africa (KSA) Development Championship held in Tongaat recently.

Seventeen white to purple belts from the WKF Ugu Karate Region who obtained WKF KwaZulu-Natal development colours competed on the national stage.

Representing Ugu were (back L-R) Shihan Dave Millar, Master Davide Benetello, Hanshi Sonny Pillay, Sensei Coenie Vrey, Sensei Grant Selkon, (middle L-R) Jeiel Madwai, Yathin Dhaya, Barend Bezuidenhout, Marnu Koekemoer, Cian Zandberg, Travis Campher, Taylor Selkon, (front L-R), Marcel du Toit, Richard Swanepoel, Divan du Toit, Preston Nicols, Blake Hogan, Ezekiel Ulbricht, Ciandri du Preez and Cloe Ellis. Absent: Dirk Lourens and Katy van der Westhuizen.

This was an all styles development tournament with only affiliated KSA dojos competing to improve and develop sport karate.

The local students put in extra training hours and came back with 13 medals, an outstanding achievement for WKF Ugu and KwaZulu-Natal Karate.
