The first Ugu age-group gala of the season took place at Southcity Christian College on Saturday.

The event was unlike any other as the first during the Covid-19 pandemic and was a huge success.

Hosts Margate Swimming Club (MSC) had some amazing results, with almost a dozen of its swimmers achieving level times.

Jayden Vermeulen, Kal-El Vermeulen and Bayanda Hufner registered Level 3 times while Kylie Best, Ange Dore, Landon Windvogel, Tristan Horsley, Cade van Tonder, Kaitlin Ramos, Cassia Burger and Kayde Orsmond clocked Level 2 times.

MSC’s young Alex Labuschagne was ultra-impressive as she made her SANJ times. Also achieving this huge feat in the season opener were Daene Robinson from Seals and Daniel Fisher from Blue Ocean Aquatics.

Being out of the pool for so long during lockdown and the stress of the Covid-19 protocols on top of that, these swimmers exceeded expectations.
