STATEMENT BY UMDONI MUNICIPALITY:
Construction, Re-gravelling and Rehabilation in the pipeline
Eleven wards of Umdoni community will soon witness busy sites over the next few months as the municipality begins to implement the promised community development projects as per the adopted 2020/21 service delivery budget.
Projects in the pipeline for implementation include the rehabilitation of Textile and Junction Roads in Ward 13. The rehabilitation process of these roads includes treatment of the surface (tar) and base of the road, improvement of the drainage system and road furniture.
Community facilities have also been catered for with the construction of Mbungulu Community Hall in Ward 6 and Pat Cele Community Hall in Ward 2.
In assiting with fighting against the lingering scurge of social ills that have engulfed the youth, plans are in place to commence with the construction of the KwaLembe an Bhadane Sportfields in Ward 1 and Ward 4 respectively.
As the voices of community requesting various service delivery improvements still echo in the ears of the municipality, Umdoni has also heeded to the call to construct the much-needed steep hills in the communities of Wards 5, 17 and 18.
A significant amount has also been availed to aid the re-gravelling of Gumede Majola Road in Ward 14, Nkampula Road in Ward 3 and Dexter Road in Ward 16. The scope of work of the rehabilitation projects involves regravelling and widening of the roads through the use of suitable gravel wearing cause, proper storm drainange systems, complete with pipes, culverts and headwalls and road furniture.
The current pandemic that once placed the whole country on standstill has not deterred the municipality’s service delivery plans of ensuring community development.
Under the trying times, the municipality has ensured the resumption of Langa Road in Ward 7. This road was part of the three-road re-gravelling project of Mashilomu Road also in Ward 7 and Maqonqa/Mgwempisi Road in Ward 8.
The municipality urges for the communities’ patience while it ensures that quality services are duly delivered to communities as per their recorded requests during the public participation process of the annual Mayoral Izimbizo.
