STATEMENT BY UMDONI MUNICIPALITY:
Phased opening of municipal offices
As from Monday, 11 May 2020 Umdoni municipality implemented a phased opening of the organization to bring more human resources in ensuring seamless provision of essential services in addition to those that have been operating since the commencement of the lockdown period on 27 March 2020.
The phased opening follows the announcement of the phased easing of the national lockdown to level 4 which allows for the resumption of more services thus requiring more employees to return to work.
In an effort to ensure that members of the public are adequately serviced whilst kept safe, those that will be visiting our offices are urged to adhere to strict precautions formulated by the municipality to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Members of the public must note that when visiting Umdoni, they will be required to be screened by completing a COVID-19 health screening questionnaire and a temperature check.
The municipality has taken a firm position to prohibit entry into municipal buildings of any individual that displays signs of being COVID-19 positive. They must be sanitized when entering municipal premises and will not be allowed to enter municipal premises without face masks or handmade cloth that covers nose and mouth. Strict practise social distancing while waiting to be serviced is encouraged and must practise strict coughing etiquette.
Umdoni Mayor, Cllr TW Dube said that these precautionary measures have been put in place for the health benefit of both the community and the staff at work. “The aim is to dampen the surge of infections in every way possible and ensure continuation of services.”
He further said, “This is an unfamiliar trajectory for our country and requires us to change our behaviour in profound ways by working in a synchronized manner in the achievement of the goal of ensuring coronavirus-free communities. Let us save our lives and those of others. May the Umdoni community be safe during this time.”
The community’s cooperation with the municipality’s efforts will be highly appreciated.
