PRESS RELEASE BY UMDONI MUNICIPALITY:
Umdoni Municipality gathered potential investors at its inaugural Investment Seminar at Selbourne Golf Estate on Friday where the municipality shared its vision of Umdoni becoming an attractive investment destination for domestic and foreign investors.
The seminar saw an impressive attendance of potential investors from across the country with a keen interest in possible investment opportunities available in Umdoni ranging from agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, wholesale and retail trade, business and finance sector, mining and the ocean economy.
The municipality declared its determination to build a community that is driven by enterprise and innovation to develop an economy that is diverse, tough and prosperous and to create businesses that achieve sustained returns not only for their investors but also for the workers that drive them and the communities that support them.
While Umdoni is a home to a population of approximately 144 551 which constitutes of 79 924 females, 69 627 males and is largely rural since its amalgamation with the erstwhile Vulamehlo. This has posed rather difficult challenges which have increased the rate of unemployment, illiteracy levels amongst other growth curbing challenges. Nevertheless, the current situational analysis does not deter our municipality from trying to improve this community through the sectors that have a potential to bring the most in the development of Umdoni.
Our long-term vision through private/public partnerships is to create an Umdoni that will be a brand of world-class firms that will be competitive as they participate in global value chains, actively network, innovate, utilise the latest technologies and thrive on partnerships and benefit the deepest of rural areas in Umdoni.
In ensuring that his vision is realised, Umdoni municipality together with its stakeholders and partners, pledged to work collaboratively to realise the vision of the Umdoni Local Municipality in unlocking the investment potential of key economic sectors within the municipality, improve the business environment through reduction of red tape, address the triple threat challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality through increased investment and spatial redress thus creating with the municipality a new era of hope, growth and working together.
