The woman who claimed she had been raped by Zwelinzima Vavi has withdrawn her “grievance”. In a twitter message the Cosatu General Secretary said the woman withdrew the claim just two hours into an internal disciplinary hearing. “Thanks to so many who supported my family,” Vavi tweeted. “I won’t do interviews on the statement — tired – spending aFternoon with my family.”
Vavi has admitted to having sex with the woman, who was employed by Cosatu, and claimed she later tried to extort R2-million from him. He denied raping her, and said the sex was consensual. However, she brought a complaint of sexual harrassment against him.
NeWs 24 reports that the woman has said she was not in a position to talk about the hearing.
