There were plenty of highlights during Saturday’s drag racing spectacular at Dezzi South Coast Raceway.

Over sixty of the fastest cars in the province that feature on the #TheList and some 15 national bike class competitors ensured that the weekend’s KwaZulu-Natal Drag Racing event was one of the most action-packed of the year.

Leeshan Naidoo made history as he recorded the fastest-ever time at the Oslo Beach track. Driving a Kwiklee Racing GT-R tuned by Myan Moodley from CPI Performance Innovation, Naidoo produced an unbelievable 8.98-second pass at 264.9km/h.

The parachute opened shortly after Naidoo blasted off the line and was open for 385 of the 402 metres. Naidoo now not only holds the record but will also go down in history as the first driver to break into the eight-second mark at the South Coast venue.

Another highlight was the return of Collin Naidoo following his horrific crash in September, in which he wrote off his beloved “Ben 10” Champ Bakkie but fortunately escaped serious injury.

Back to full fitness, Naidoo made a successful comeback as he ran a 10-second pass to clinch a class win.

Drag racers will return to Dezzi Raceway for Cash Days on 15 December – a bumper event in which KwaZulu-Natal’s fastest will take on the 011 Street Society to determine who has the fastest street cars in South Africa.

A whopping R50 000 will be up for grabs – R10 000 per class – and the event, presented by Gas Magazine, will include a massive Show ‘n Shine and Park Off.
